A New Step in Welding Automation: Novarc’s AI System Built in British Columbia

Spool Welding Robot (SWR™) TIPTIG Autonomy integrates artificial intelligence and machine learning to deliver precision and consistency previously unobtainable in TIG welding which has been historically dependent on manual control by skilled welders.

Vancouver, Canada – October 31, 2025 – Novarc Technologies Inc. has introduced SWR TIPTIG Autonomy, which they described as the world’s first fully autonomous TIG welding system. The system was developed and built at the company’s new headquarters in Burnaby, British Columbia.
The technology combines artificial intelligence and machine learning to automate TIG welding, a process that traditionally requires skilled manual control. It is intended for use in industries such as shipbuilding, nuclear energy, and clean technology, where consistent weld quality and productivity are critical.

According to Novarc, the autonomous system was developed through several years of research within British Columbia’s technology sector. The launch event in Burnaby included remarks from Member of Parliament Wade Chang, MLA Paul Choi, and Novarc CEO Soroush Karimzadeh.

Officials at the event said the technology reflects the province’s growing role in advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence development.
