ECITB Launches New Level 3 Welding Qualifications to Address Skills Shortage

The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) has introduced two new Ofqual-regulated Level 3 Diplomas in Pipe Welding and Plate Welding in Engineering, developed in response to growing demand for skilled welders across the UK engineering construction industry.

The qualifications aim to upskill existing workers and train new entrants for high-quality welding roles in sectors such as oil and gas, nuclear, power generation, and renewables. Each diploma covers manual welding processes, quality control, safety, documentation, and workplace practices, aligning with national occupational and apprenticeship standards.

ECITB CEO Andrew Hockey emphasised that these programmes are “tailored to meet the needs of industry” and are essential to building the workforce required for major infrastructure and net-zero projects.

Training providers and colleges in England are invited to apply to deliver the new qualifications.
